The album Topless Dancers Of Corfu The Minotaur by Dick Hyman And His Electric Eclectics is a unique and eclectic blend of jazz, funk, and world music. The album is a tribute to the Greek island of Corfu, known for its stunning natural beauty and rich cultural heritage.

The album features a range of instruments, including electric guitar, synthesizer, and percussion, all played with great skill and precision by the members of the Electric Eclectics. The tracks are diverse, ranging from the funky "Minotaur Boogie" to the atmospheric "Sunset on the Aegean."

One standout track on the album is "Topless Dancers of Corfu," a sultry and seductive tune that captures the hedonistic spirit of the island. The track features a driving bassline and sultry saxophone solos that will have listeners tapping their feet and swaying along.

American keyboard player and composer, born March 8, 1927 in New York City, New York. Hyman studied at Columbia University and played with musicians like Teddy Wilson, Red Norvo, and Benny Goodman. He recorded under different pseudonyms and in 1955 recorded a cover of "Moritat" on harpsichord with his trio which sold over a million copies. During late 1960s he investigated the earliest periods of jazz and ragtime and researched and recorded the music of some of the first early jazz figures. Hyman experimented with various keyboard instruments, including Baldwin and Lowrey organs. In the late 1960's he recorded a series of avantgarde albums using a minimoog synthesizer. He recorded some of the most appreciated albums from the space age pop. Hyman has also worked for TV, scoring film soundtracks for Woody Allen, and as a jazz pianist and organist.

A long part of this piece has been played by Keith Emerson during his solo of Aquatarkus, recorded in their live LP "Welcome Bacl My Friends". Great Stuff!

Not the first top 40 hit with a Moog keyboard (2 Turtles top 10 hits and maybe some others), but I think the first hit with a drum programmed machine track.

I heard this music on the radio in the early 70s. Around 1972, I went to see an exhibit of kinetic art at the Phoenix Art Museum in Phoenix, AZ. I was 20 at the time. It featured a large Plexiglass cube that had within it Plexiglass tubes of varying lengths. Inside each tube was a brightly colored liquid. The tubes were brightly lit from underneath. When this cube was in action, this music, The Minotaur would play and the liquid in the tubes would rise and fall with the music almost in sync. It was incredibly fascinating!! I love looking at kinetic art-art objects that move either mechanically or electrically, that light up. I have not seen any since then.

Whoa.?
So THIS is what happened when a pet Theramin got loose & mated with a feral Hammond organ.
Just a theory... but I sure woulda LOVED to adopt one of the kittens/puppies/calves/foals/chicks/pinkies(infant rats or mice, y'all--AWESOME pets too, BTW)/WHATEVER you'd call 'em... Thanks-on-steroids to the human who uploaded this song!!! I loved it back in the day, I had the record (til a rotten jealous ex-boyfriend freakin' STOLE it, along with 2/3 of my beloved record collection!!!?), still crazy about it, after all these(never MIND how many!!!)years!!!
Now I shall wear out my cheap phone playing it. Over & over & over. I can ALWAYS get another cheap phone.??

As a radio disc jockey, I played this song back in 1969. A fellow DJ told me, "Get ready. This synthesizer stuff is the music of the future." I said, "You're crazy. It's a novelty, and this fad will be gone soon." Well, you called it, Gary! Obviously, I'm no prophet.

Brought this (vinyl) album to a physics class at Kent State, early 70's. The professor claimed he went to grad school with Dick Hyman. Also claimed Dick Hyman's mentor for grad school told My Hyman to get serious or get out. He got out and I am grateful for that.
